November 27th Autocross. By Steve Warwick This would be my final autocross for the season and the time to seal the season victory, which was at this point looking pretty good. It would take a pretty significant screw up and some amazing driving by Brian t for him to be able to make up the points difference going into this event. The course was clearly laid out in favor of smaller cars, with tight corners and a couple of very narrow lane changes. Due to the narrowness of the course, coning a run would be easy, so it was going to be important to get a clean run in. My first run was to warm up the tires and make sure that I had a clean run to fall back on. I came in with a 60.6. not bad, but looking at the top drivers in other classes, it looked like a low 58 would be possible. The second run confirmed it, with a clean 59.3. I was well out in first place with that run, with Sean Goodbody in second with a 60.5 and Brian in third with 61.2. Getting a clean second run meant that I could go for it in the final run. There were a couple of points on that run that were a little wide and lost me time, but I still came I with a 58.8. Sean made up a lot of time on his final run, getting a 59.5 on the board, leaving Brian to pick up third with a 60.1 on his final run. That was it. I had put the SS championship out of reach of Brian in second place. My second championship jacket was a lot easier than last year’s competition that really came down to the wire on the last event of the year. I want to say a massive thank you to Sector111 for all their support over the year, there is no way that I could have done it without them. I was particularly sorry to let them down at the nationals, but it certainly wasn’t for lack of trying.
